NEW YORK, NY โ€“ The Barstool Sports family and the Iona University community are mourning the loss of Jonathan Stanko, a cherished member of the Barstool Sports team and an alumnus of Iona University, who passed away at the age of 32 after a courageous battle with stage four stomach cancer.

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy shared the devastating news on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, paying tribute to Stanko’s extraordinary contributions during his nearly four years with the company. โ€œStanko was beloved here, and that is very rare at Barstool,โ€ Portnoy remarked, highlighting his positivity, professionalism, and kindness in a workplace known for its competitive and fast-paced environment.

A Life of Dedication and Resilience Jonathan Stanko graduated from Iona University in 2014 and dedicated over a decade of his life to the universityโ€™s athletic department before joining Barstool Sports in 2021 as a production technician. Stanko quickly became a well-loved figure among his colleagues, earning respect for his work ethic and his ability to bring warmth and humor to those around him.

In April 2024, Stanko was diagnosed with stage four Adenocarcinoma gastric cancer. Despite the grim prognosis, he displayed unwavering courage and optimism. In an emotional blog post, Stanko shared details about his journey, including the difficult moment when doctors estimated his life expectancy at just over a year if chemotherapy proved ineffective.
