It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew Craig Hudson, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Matthew’s loss has left a deep void in the hearts of all who knew him. His friendly nature, engaging personality, and his ability to bring joy to those around him will be forever missed. Matthew’s passing marks the end of a life that was full of warmth, laughter, and kindness.
Matthew Craig Hudson was born in Saigon, Vietnam, on November 30, 1969. As a young child, he made the journey with his family to the United States, where they settled in Lexington, Kentucky. Lexington became the place Matthew called home, and it was here that he became a well-known and cherished member of his community. Matthew’s life was defined by his deep connection to those around him, and his unwavering love for his family and friends.
In Lexington, Matthew found a strong sense of belonging. He attended Cadentown Baptist Church, where he made lifelong friendships and was known for his genuine, kind-hearted nature. Whether he was attending church services, helping with community activities, or simply spending time with loved ones, Matthew’s presence was always one of light and positivity. He found joy in the little things in life, often visiting local gas stations for a pop and a scratch-off ticket, enjoying the simple pleasures that brought a smile to his face.
Matthew had an incredible gift for conversation. He was always eager to strike up a chat with friends, family, and even strangers, spreading warmth and kindness wherever he went. He had the rare ability to make everyone feel heard, valued, and appreciated. His infectious laugh, genuine interest in others, and willingness to listen made him beloved to so many. Whether it was a casual exchange or a more profound conversation, Matthew had a way of making everyone around him feel comfortable and connected.
Matthew is survived by his loving father, Craig Wesley Hudson, of Lexington. His father’s love and support were unwavering throughout Matthew’s life, and their bond was unbreakable. Matthew is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Ethel Thurman, of Lawrenceburg, who held a special place in his heart. In addition, Matthew’s sister, Marquita Carr, and her husband, Ramon, will forever carry his memory. Matthew’s niece and nephew, Maya and Andre Carr of Colorado Springs, CO, were a source of pride and joy for him, and his love for them was immeasurable.
Matthew was also surrounded by a circle of extended family who meant the world to him. He was remembered fondly by his aunts and uncle: Marshale Holland (James) of Louisville, Jonathan Thurman of Lexington, Cindy Bean, and Gina Penny, both of Lawrenceburg. His family always cherished his presence and the warmth he brought into their lives. Matthew also had a close-knit group of special friends, including Marcy Hall, Missy Hall, and Samuel Thompson, who will forever hold dear the memories they shared with him.
Though Matthew is survived by many, his loss is deeply felt by all who were close to him. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Johnny Lewis Thurman, Sr., and his aunt, Lori Penny, who had both left an indelible mark on his life. The family takes solace in knowing that Matthew is now reunited with them, and his memory will continue to live on through the stories and experiences shared by those who loved him.
A celebration of Matthew’s life will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Noon & Son Funeral Home in Lexington. Friends and family are invited to gather from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for visitation, where they will have the opportunity to pay their respects and share in the memories of Matthew’s life. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Aaron Mansfield, a long-time friend and spiritual guide to Matthew. The service will reflect the love, kindness, and joy Matthew brought to the world and will honor his legacy.
Matthew’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, laughter, and connection. His presence illuminated the lives of those around him, and his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of his family, friends, and community. His passing may have left a void, but the love and joy he shared will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
