On Monday evening, April 28, 2025, Dr. Kami Hansen, a chiropractor from New Lisbon, was walking her dog with her son in the 1300 block of Landmark Lane in Cottage Grove. According to reports, a vehicle veered off the road and struck them. Dr. Hansen was pronounced dead at the hospital, while her son sustained serious injuries and underwent surgery. Their dog also died at the scene. The driver, a 49-year-old Cottage Grove man, was transported to the hospital with injuries and was later arrested on Thursday, May 1, at 1:45 p.m. He faces charges of first-degree reckless homicide, first-degree reckless injury, and first-degree recklessly endangering safety

Dr. Hansen was a beloved member of the Cottage Grove community and the owner of Heartland Family Chiropractic. In her honor, local businesses and organizations are offering support. Warm Belly Farm has announced that 10% of all store sales on Thursday, May 8, will be donated to Dr. Hansen’s family .
